What Is Jor-El Espina’s Collection All About?

Jor-El’s collection is composed of 60 pieces that embody his journey in the fashion industry. “It’s very much like my diary as a designer,” he says. Stepping out of his comfort zone, the designer has created pieces that deviate from his quintessential Filipinianas in muted tones. Instead, we see a new side of him, one that embraces a maximalist sensibility through jewel tones, metallics, and old-world glamour.

Even as he adds a new page in his design playbook, Jor-El still stays true to his ethos of championing Filipino artisans and creativity. Local fabrics, hand embroidery, and reimagined barongs remain the foundation of his latest endeavor. “This collection pushes the limits in terms of where I can take Filipiniana dressing. I consider [it] as my playground,” he shares.

He adds: “You can also expect lots of volume, bold silhouettes, an explosion of textures and details.” His collaboration with DiaGold has further elevated the collection’s splendor, with diamonds and precious stones completing each ensemble in “20 Design Anthologies.”

Jor-El’s anniversary collection isn’t just about glamour—it’s also about honoring the lasting impact of one of the communities that has supported him most: the LGBTQIA+. The upcoming anniversary event is a collaboration with the Philippine Financial and Inter-Industry Pride (PFIP) and serves as the Bahaghari Charity Gala. Its goal is to raise funds for PFIP’s Rainbow Youth Academy Scholarship Program, which seeks to expand access to higher education and dismantle systemic barriers for underrepresented youth, particularly those from the LGBTQIA+ community.

“Being a part of this community, I believe that we each have a role to play in shaping its culture,” Jor-El says.
