Q&A: Jennifer L. Armentrout, Author of ‘The Primal of Blood and Bone’

We chat with author Jennifer L. Armentrout about The Primal of Blood and Bone, which is the sixth installment in her Blood and Ash series!

Hi, Jennifer! What can readers expect from The Primal of Blood and Bone, your penultimate book in the Blood and Ash series?

There will be a lot of reveals and a lot of twists. I think there will be some “awwww” moments and perhaps even some tears. This book really digs deeper into the characters and the world, and I’ve been both excited and nervous to finally share these pieces with readers. It’s emotional, it’s surprising, and I think it’s going to leave people eager for the Poppy and Cas finale.

You recently opened a bookstore…CONGRATS! We’ve heard that you have some cool things in the works.

Thanks! Yes, I’ve recently opened Miss Willa’s Bookshop, which has been such a dream come true for me. I’m also in the process of readying Miss Willa’s Booktique—a short-term rental (think Airbnb) that’s completely book-themed. It’s been a lot of fun putting together a space where readers can not only shop for stories but also stay in an environment that feels like a love letter to books.

Tell us how you balance your writing life with ApollyCon and your bookstore?

Right now? Ha. There is no balance. Someone really should’ve stopped me when I decided to open a bookshop, a booktique, still run ApollyCon, and have books that need to be written. In other words, I need an adult. But in all seriousness, I make it work because I love every piece of what I’m doing—even when it feels like too much. It’s a lot, but it’s worth it.

What’s your favorite part of your day?

Honestly, the best part is when I hit my writing groove. There’s nothing quite like it. The words start flowing, the characters are talking, and I completely lose track of time. It reminds me why I love telling stories in the first place.
