Local author alert: Prescott’s Priscilla Paton brings mystery to Prescott Public Library
PRESCOTT – Prescott Public Library invites the community to its next Meet the Author event on from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15 at the Prescott Library (800 Borner St. N.), where we will meet award-nominated author Priscilla Paton and discuss her latest book, “When the House Burns.”
Paton’s passion for mystery began after she received her Ph.D. in English at Boston College and stumbled upon her first Scandinavian mystery novel (think of books like “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”). Paton tells United Way in an interview, “A friend of mine suggested I write one of my own, and then it became serious pretty fast.”
Since then, Paton has written three novels that make up the Twin Cities Mystery series; “Where Privacy Dies” and “When the House Burns” were Foreword Indies Finalists in 2019 and 2021, respectively.
Paton is also known for her short story contributions over the years. In 2019, Paton wrote “The Rhubarbary of It All” for the crime-by-food anthology “Cooked to Death: Cold Cut Files.” On Sept. 30, Paton also published the short story “Ice Out” in the anthology “On Fire and Under Water,” a collection of climate related crime stories that is nationally distributed and receiving great attention from the mystery-writing community.
The best part about Paton? She loves libraries: “How wonderful to have a library and all its services available nearly every day!”
Meet the Author event attendees will have a chance hear from the author about her writing style and inquiries of research for her books, listen to excerpts, and participate in a Q&A session. This event is free to attend, and registration is not required.
“We love promoting local authors! It’s one of the best parts of working at the library, and it’s fun to give creative voices a place to promote their work,” remarks Darien Becker, Prescott Library’s Program & Outreach Coordinator.
