The Commerce Public Library will host a local author event on Saturday, Aug. 9, at 1 p.m. Ricky Fitzpatrick, a Southern Gothic author from Apple Valley, will discuss his new murder mystery, The Last Supper Club. The event will include a live reading, book signing, meet-and-greet, and Q&A session.
Looking ahead, the library will host the Jackson County Resource Fair for families on Wednesday, Aug. 24, from 10 a.m. to noon. The event will connect families with health care professionals and community organizations. Participating groups include MedLink Georgia, Athens Community Council on Aging, Bright Paths, Ferst Readers Foundation, WorkSource Northeast Georgia, and Piedmont Athens Hospital Outreach. Free giveaway items will be available while supplies last.
The library has added a new game night to its Thursday lineup. Magic: The Gathering now meets Thursdays at 6 p.m., with a focus on command decks. Interested patrons can come sit in to learn more about this card game of strategy, and more experienced players are encouraged to bring their desks to play along. This program is for ages 10 and up. As a reminder, SMASH Bros with Nintendo Switch, Pokemon and Chess also meet every Thursday.
