Local author speaks at Landmark, touts new book | WLife

Local author Bob Ravener held a book signing and speaking event at Landmark Booksellers on Thursday, May 8.
Several community members came out to meet Ravener, have their books signed, and participate in a Q&A about “The Faithful Servant,” a World War I historical fiction novel loosely based on Ravener’s family.
“This is what I would call a uniquely American story,” he said.
The story follows Frank C. Smith, a decorated WWI veteran, whose loyalty to his country is tested time and time again. The powerful novel showcases themes of adversity, heritage and patriotism as Smith tackles brutal warfare and the streets of New York City.
“The written word seems to be losing its sense of importance because things are so digital now, so being able to continue with the written word and keep people interested is very important,” Ravener said.
Ravener’s “The Faithful Servant” released in late April and has already become a top-100 Amazon Bestseller in WWI Historical Fiction. Having graduated from the United State Naval Academy and served active duty as a submarine officer in the US Navy, his military knowledge is impressively reflected in “The Faithful Servant.”
“Landmark [Booksellers] is fantastic, and the city of Franklin is fantastic,” Ravener said at his event Thursday. “It’s been exceptional. I couldn’t be more pleased. Landmark is the local place to be.”
He said several signings are in the works to take place in New York City, since a large portion of his novel takes place there.
While this is his debut fiction novel, “The Faithful Servant” is not his first publication. His memoir, “Up! The Difference Between Today and Tomorrow Is You,” published in 2013 and can be found on Amazon.
A resident of Franklin, Ravener serves on nonprofit boards for Friends of Franklin, Downtown Neighborhood Association, and Franklin’s Charge. He is also a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
