The MOTH hosts book signing and Q&A with The Church Studio book author Teresa Knox | News
TULSA, Okla. — The Museum of Tulsa History held a book signing event centered on the historic Church Studio.
The book, “Sanctuary of Sound: The Church Studio,” details the history of the church turned studio.
For those who don’t know, The Church Studio was started by Leon Russell and has seen the likes of several famous artists like The GAP Band, Stevie Wonder, Willie Nelson, Tom Petty, and Jimmy Buffett.
“I’ve never really written a book before, but I just really wanted to do this. I interviewed like 400 people and I didn’t really plan on writing a book, but again, I learned so many things,” said author Teresa Knox. “Since the history of the building hadn’t really been captured before, I felt compelled to document it, just from a historical context because none of us are going to be around forever and so I just thought the story was so beautiful and something we can celebrate as Tulsans.”
If you want to visit the still active recording studio, they are open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
