Havana Times New Books Section: Reviews & Interviews

HAVANA TIMES – In March 2026, Havana Times created a new section dedicated to books and authors.  This was an idea that came up numerous times in the first years of our 17+ year daily publication but never got off the ground. It stayed on the back burner until we were contacted by book editor, reviewer and author interviewer Selena Mercuri, a Cuban-Italian based in Toronto who enthusiastically gave us the impetus to begin.

The concept of the new book section is to create an accessible and diverse space where we share recommendations, reviews and conversations about books from various perspectives—especially those that do not always receive much visibility. The idea is to encourage reading, discover new voices, and build a community around literature.

As a bilingual publication, we will be prioritizing Latin American and Caribbean authors whose works are published in English and Spanish.

Our first post was an interview with Marta Batiz, the author of “A Daughters Place”, the story of Miguel de Cervantes “illegitimate” daughter.

We are open to readers’ suggestions for books to feature in this new section.
