Elvis Presley among celebrities featured in Madison-based author’s new book ’Wisconsin Idols’

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – A Madison-based author just published a new book about one hundred prominent figures who have left their mark on Wisconsin and beyond.
Dean Robbins, author of Wisconsin Idols, visited WMTV on Monday. He said this book has about 100 essays offering his perspective on about a dozen heroic figures from the past and present who have connections to Wisconsin.
Robbins said he was inspired to write the book based off of his own fascination with important figures.
“It started with me drawing superman S’s on a piece of paper and taping them on my undershirt. I was always interested in getting people emotionally in these people too. I want my people to be your heroes and the best way to do that is through storytelling.”
Out of all the stories featured in the book, he shared his favorite story is about the King of Rock and Roll stopping a fight at a Madison gas station near the end of his life.
Robbins said Elvis Presley was coming into Madison for a concert from another when he saw the fight happening from his limousine. “He saved the day and it was the last miracle of his life.”
